'Latin sex god' Matt Baker tears up the Strictly dancefloor... but Paul Daniels is simply 'tragic'

Unexpected star: 'Latin sex god' Matt Baker smiles after his winning performance of the cha cha cha on Strictly Come Dancing

Matt Baker's TV appearances typically involve him tucking a wriggling sheep under his muscly arm as he broadcasts from a muddy field.

So it's hard to believe that underneath the Countryfile presenter's down-to-earth, friendly persona, he has the moves of a 'Latin sex god', as a visibly thrilled Tess Daly put it.

The 32-year-old, best known for his years as a Blue Peter presenter, unexpectedly stole the show on the first night of Strictly Come Dancing.

Countryfile on Strictly: There was a nod to Matt's day job in the wellies and grass patch

But not everyone did as well, with veteran magician Paul Daniels labelled 'tragic' as he scored the lowest mark of the night - just 16 out of 40.

But for Baker, it was straight to the top of the leader board with 31 points.
Dancing the cha cha cha with partner Aliona Vilani, the father-of-two tore up the dance floor, his hips shaking and twisting as he mastered every step.

Failed to impress: Paul Daniels was labelled as 'tragic' for his efforts

Baker's background as a former gymnast obviously helped, leaving the judges understandably pleased.

'You sir are one to watch,' said Craig Revel-Horwood, the normally mean-mouthed judge.

Head judge Len Goodman was, for once, in agreement: 'Best cha cha of the night, so good.'

And former winner Alesha Dixon told him: ' I was so impressed, and pleasantly surprised.'

While Bruno Tolioni could barely contain his excitement: 'This year is going to be a classic. What I've seen tonight for first night is amazing, well done.'

Modest: But Baker admitted he did have some tricks up his sleeve

Asked by Tess if he had any more tricks hidden up his sleeves, a modest Baker told her: 'There's a few bits and pieces.'

Tess gasped: 'Latin sex god, tearing up the floor and now he's Matt Baker again.
'He just wanted to get through it, he says!'

Equalling Baker on the leaderboard was Not The Nine O'Clock News' Pamela Stephenson.
Her dance partner James Jordan had an uphill battle, flying to New York to rehearse with Pamela, 60.

His task was made all the more challenging by her Scottish comedian husband Billy Connolly, who sat unsmiling watching the rehearsals.

'Dreamy and romantic': Equaling Baker on the leaderboard was Not The Nine O'Clock News' Pamela Stephenson

According to Pamela Connolly has warned off Jordan, worried that his wife might fall for his charms.

But Pamela has no hesitation as she waltzed onto the dance floor, in a bright blue floor-length gown.

No hesitation: Alesha told her: 'Breath-taking Pamela, absolutely breath-taking. You have such a beautiful energy about you'

Alesha told her: 'Breath-taking Pamela, absolutely breath-taking. You have such a beautiful energy about you.'

Bruno agreed. 'Graceful, fluid, your arm placements for week one, I don't think I've ever seen them so good.'

And the one that matters, Craig, had only words of praise: 'Dreamy romantic, absolutely perfect.'

Keeping a close eye on things: Billy Connolly is supervising his wife's rehersals

Len added: 'You can't win Strictly Come Dancing in week one, what you can do is make a fantastic impression on absolutely everyone.'

As the first dancers of this year's series, Felicty Kendall and Vincent Simone had a daunting task.

But their cha cha cha was clean and perky, or at least three of the judges thought so.

Len told the Good Life star: 'I've gotta say there's more tension in this room than there was in my nan's knicker elastic.

'But you're come out here with confidence. Unfortunately we didn't see enough hips from you, it was just a little bit careful.'

I loved it! Felicity Kendall talks to Tess Daly after her opening dance

Sex kitten: Alesha enthused about Felicity's sunshine yellow dress

Alesha enthused about 64-year-old Felicity's sunshine yellow flowing dress.
'Felicity you look beautiful,' she told her. 'I thought you had just the right amount of sex kitten.'

Bruno was more considered. 'You did all the steps on time, yes you could push the hips a little bit more. I feel your just getting warmed up.'

But predictably one man was unimpressed.

'For me very flat,' said Craig.

But it wasn't all bad news. 'I did like the storytelling and actually the cleanliness of the routine I thought was spot on.'

Felicity admitted it was hard work. 'I couldn't watch the others first, but I loved it.'

Getting down: Scott Maslen from EastEnders performed a VERY raunchy waltz

Scott Maslen from EastEnders followed her onto the dance floor, with a very raunchy waltz.

'If that's a waltz, I'm dreading the rumba,' said a slightly shocked Len. 'Very well done.'

Alesha clarified: 'Len is right, traditionally the waltz is romantic. But I actually liked the sexed up version.

'It was hot, it was spicy. I think you've set a very good standard for next week.'
Bruno added: 'Strong, dramatic romantic, a frisson of sexuality running through it. God knows what you're going to do with the rumba.'

Not so natural on the dancefloor was DJ Goldie, who danced to Kesha's Tik Tok

Craig wasn't impressed by Scott's hands, saying he 'looked like a puppet.'
But he told him: 'You made the waltz dangerously romantic.'

Not so natural on the dancefloor was DJ Goldie, who danced to Kesha's Tik Tok.
Craig seemed slightly shocked by the performance.

'Arm placement was extremely dodgy throughout,' he told him. 'That ghastly 80s move has to go, two-year-olds do that darling.'

Len agreed. 'You're hardly a shrinking violet. You've got great rhythm, It was a little bit overladen with those ripply moves.

'But I would say the cha cha's about having fun and that's what you did.'
Patsy Kensit admitted she was scared about taking part in Strictly.

'It's been a bit of a crummy year for me,' she told the camera, referring to the failure of her short-lived fourth marriage.

'My confidence? I lost it totally. This has just been brilliant for me.'
But her waltz did not go without incident, after she stumbled at the start.

'No way, gosh, I'm so sorry Robin, it's my fault entirely,' she said.

Patsy Kensit admitted she was scared about taking part in Strictly

But her dance partner tried to calm her nerves.

'Patsy did amazing, she's been working so hard and she's given 110% and that's all i can ask from her,' he told her.

Len told her to work on her confidence, while Alesha had words of encouragement.
'I think you looked absolutely beautiful. The waltz is one of the hardest dances you can do on the first night.

'As Len said, just go away, keep your confidence and you'll be fine.'
Finishing up the show was magician Paul Daniels.

He proved he still had the ability to entertain, parodying his background by revealing his dance partner from an empty box.

But |Craig told him: 'The best part of that routine was the empty box, I'm afraid.'

That's magic: In a gimmicky start to his dance Paul did a magic trick...

... revealing his dance partner inside an apparently empty box

And Bruno joked about the choice of music - Could It Be Magic.

'You've got the wrong song, its hould be Could It Be Tragic,' he told him, to boos.
Len, however, did his best to end the show on a high note, telling him: 'It was as though you'd been sprinkled with fairy dust, It was light, it was dainty.'

And Alesha added: 'Well done for coming out and giving it a go. And you know what? Bring on next week.'

You're gonna like this... not a lot: Paul was comforted by his dancing partner

Christine Bleakley falls about in a fit of giggles as a hawk causes mayhem in the Daybreak studio

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwQ477Pfua4endofvid

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Whoops! Christine Bleakley was unable to control her mirth on camera after the hawk soared into the studio rafters

The old adage 'never work with children or animals' came true for Christine Bleakley on Daybreak today when she found herself face to face with a temperamental hawk.

Cressy, a four-year-old Harris Hawk who appeared on Friday's edition of the ITV1 show, is used to keep seagulls at bay in parts of Rhyl, Llandudno and Conwy and stop them from attacking people for food.

She appeared on the show in the Something Cool Before The Kids Go To School slot.

Staying put: the hawk seemed reluctant to budge and had to be coaxed down by its trainer

And while Christine, who admitted she was 'a bit scared of birds', kept her distance, Cressy initially appeared to behave herself.

But when the creature was called upon to show off her flying skills, she had other ideas.

While she seemed quite happy to fly between her trainers Mike Espley and Rob Davis, when it came to landing on Adrian Chiles' arm she opted instead to fly up into the rafters of the studio and stay there.

In a fit of giggles: A clearly amused Christine joked about how the bird running away was 'the story of Adrian's life'

On the loose: It was mayhem on the set as the bird took flight

Christine appeared unable to control her laughter and burst into hysterics on camera as Adrian registered his surprise that the hawk had flown straight past him.

'Adrian you haven't had any luck with the female dog or the female bird,' she joked. 'Story of Adrian's life, ladies and gentlemen.

'That's all I'm going to say. They tend to go running like that, although not quite up into the ceiling!'

The bird was eventually coaxed down from the rafters by its trainers and was seen sitting on Chiles' arm a few minutes later.

That's better: the hawk was finally brought down from the ceiling and perched on Adrian Chiles' arm

Strictly business.... or is Kara Tointon falling for her handsome Russian dance partner?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS6tCx5xXjIendofvid

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Hands on: Kara Tointon and Artem Chigvintsev looked very close as they took a break between training

Strictly Come Dancing is as famous for romances as it is for its rumbas and it seems love is on the cards again this season.

Kara Tointon, 27, is rumoured to be 'smitten' with her Russian dance partner Artem Chigvintsev, whom she has been training with ahead of tomorrow night's show.

The pair certainly seemed close as they visited a shopping centre during a break from training this week.

Artem, 28, was spotted tenderly stroking the former EastEnders star's shoulders as they made their way down an escalator.

Budding romance? The former EastEnders star is said to be 'smitten' with her dance partner

Proving himself to be quite the gentleman, he was even carrying her handbag on the outing.

He has even been seen visiting the actress at her North London flat after hours, according to reports.

'It was obvious to everyone from the first rehearsal there was a huge spark between them,' a source is quoted as telling the Mirror.

Kara split from her former EastEnders co-star Joe Swash in June after a two year romance.

Ready to rumba: The pair will compete together for the first time on tomorrow's show

Artem, who got his break as a contestant on the US TV show So You Think You Can Dance in 2005, has also appeared as a professional on America's Dancing With The Stars.

He dated one of the show's judges Carrie Ann Inaba, who is 15 years his senior, however their romance ended in 2008.

A spokesperson for Kara says: 'Of course Kara and Artem are spending lots of time together. They are training every day. But they are just good friends.'

Kara and Artem will join Gavin Henson and Kataya Kirshilas, who were also spotted in London today, on Strictly Come Dancing tomorrow night on BBC at 9pm.

First look: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler take their seats at the American Idol judging table

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4MonkIByGoendofvid

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Tweet peek: Nigel Lythgoe tweeted a picture earlier today of new American Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler with Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest

Excitement is mounting ahead of the start of season ten of American Idol, which starts in the U.S. July 12 on Fox.

To add to the anticipation, Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted a picture earlier today of the new additions to the show hard at work.

Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez were pictured sitting at the famed American Idol judging table with existing judge Randy Jackson and show host Ryan Seacrest.

Both Seacrest and Jackson have been with the show since it's first episode broadcast in June 2002 and are the only remaining original cast members.

After months of speculation American Idol finally announced last week that Lopez and Tyler would be joining the show, replacing last season's judges, Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi.

With the departure of the show's star, acid-tongued Simon Cowell, producers are looking to up the ante in order to maintain their previously record breaking viewer figures.

In addition to the introduction of the two new A-list judges Idol are promising a slew of changes to the show's format in a way to rejuvenate and freshen up the format.

Changes: After months of speculation Idol finally announced last week that Lopez and Tyler will be joining the show as the new judges

Ratings gamble: Idol producers are banking on Tyler and Lopez to bring in the viewers following the departure of their star judge, Simon Cowell

They have reduced the minimum age requirement for contestants by a year, from sixteen to fifteen and for the first time they are allowing contestants to apply online by submitting their audition tapes via the internet.

Idol hopefuls can submit a 40 second audition tape via Myspace between September 15 - October 6 2010.

Cecile Frot-Coutaz, executive producer of American Idol explained their decision to lower the minimum age: 'A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16,' she said. 'Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool.'

In addition, the show's producers announced that they are scrapping the celebrity guest mentors that have advised contestants in past years in favour of an in-house mentor, Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of the Interscope Geffen A & M records group.

Make me a star: Idol wanabees are still flocking in their legions to audition for season ten of the hit show

Despite the changes contestants are as eager as ever to vie for a chance to compete on the show.

Wannabe singers have been turning out in droves for the opportunity to perform in front of the judges, with auditions already completed in Nashville, New Orleans, Austin and San Francisco.

American Idol has come under criticism in the past, with claims that contestants are forced to sign contracts that are heavily weighted against their favour.

It's claimed that the contracts give excessive control of contestant's careers to 19 Entertainment, the record company that was founded by Simon Fuller, creator of the worldwide Idol franchise.

Out with the old: Ellen DeGeneres, Simon Cowell and Kara DioGuardi have all left the show, leaving just Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest to carry on the mantle

But there's no doubting that appearing on the show can give unknowns previously unheard levels of exposure, making or breaking careers and launching certain contestants to mega stardom.

And it's not just the show's winners that go on to find fame and fortune.
One of the biggest success stories of the show's history is Jennifer Hudson, who finished a meagre seventh place in season three, but went on to garner an Oscar for her performance in the 2008 smash hit, Dreamgirls.

Season one and season four winners, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have both gone on to become mega successful recording and performing stars, along with Chris Daughtry, who finished fourth in season five.

See what happens, Kate when you invite Nigella on to talk about why eating chocolate can be sexy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9vKVpUIXacendofvid

By JESSICA SATHERLEY

Sexy? Kate Garraway tried to be seductive with chocolate but it all went wrong

After Nigella Lawson explained to Kate Garraway that eating chocolate can be sexy, the Daybreak presenter tried her hand at the art of seduction.

But it didn’t quite work out and instead Garraway ended up with a face slathered in chocolate after her co-presenter Dan Lobb dunked her head into a bowl of chocolate sauce.

The presenters had been interviewing Nigella, dubbed the queen of food porn, who is famed for licking her fingers flirtatiously while in the kitchen.

Getting a dunking: The moment Kate was covered in chocolate

Kate told Nigella: ‘You’re gorgeous and you make cooking look slightly rude’, while Dan agreed and told the cook: ‘You make food look sexy.’

But when the presenters tried to emulate the 50-year-old food journalist, it all went wrong.

Luckily 43-year-old Kate was able to laugh at her mishap, despite chocolate running down her face and covering her fringe.

Food tips: Nigella tried to give the presenters some tips from her new book

Meanwhile Dan Lobb, who was covering with Kate while Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles had a day off, took the opportunity to sample some of the chocolate sauce too.
But he managed to keep it clean and used a biscuit spoon during his taste test.

Slam dunk: Kate's face was dunked in the bowl of chocolate by her co-presenter Dan Lobb

Clean up: Kate tries to mop up the chocolate with a paper towel

Their guest Nigella, who dressed provocatively for the breakfast show in a low cut leopard print cardigan was promoting her latest book.

And after Kate’s failed attempt at Nigella’s food philosophy, she quickly grabbed a napkin to wipe herself down.

Big Brother winner Josie bids to shift her spare tyre with TWO personal trainers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf4kcc_8Sggendofvid

Put through her paces: Big Brother 11 winner Josie Gibson undergoes a gruelling workout in London

She won Big Brother viewers over with her bubbly personality and down-to-earth attitude.

But it seems Josie Gibson, who was crowned the winner of the 11th series of the reality show, wants a figure that will fit in on the celebrity circuit.

The Size 16 Bristolian, 25, has embarked on a new regime to lose her spare tyre - and such is her determination she is using two personal trainers.

Dressed in a tight black and blue workout outfit, Josie was seen taking part in an energetic workout and taking on an obstacle course in a London park.

Tough: The 25-year-old Bristolian is hoping to shed her excess pounds and slim down from a size 16 to a 12

While her housemates, and boyfriend John James, accepted Josie for who she was during her time in the house, she admitted she felt 'a little bit insecure' about her size and wanted to join a gym when she left the reality TV show.

But despite the photographs of Josie exercising could be misinterpreted as a way for her to sell a fitness DVD when she has slimmed down, she insists she doesn't want to follow in the footsteps of stars including Natalie Cassidy by shedding weight and then putting it back on.

Limbering up: Josie stretched ahead of starting her workout in a London park last week

Showing off some moves: Josie appeared to be dancing with her trainer, having kicked off her trainers to give herself more mobility

She said in a recent interview: 'I couldn’t be one of those size zero women. It wouldn’t suit me. I’d like to be a comfortable 12. But not any smaller.

'You see all these stars and they lose all that weight and it just doesn’t suit them. Take Natalie Cassidy, I think she looks better when she’s got all her curves.

'You’ve got to be the size you are comfortable with and I am a womanly woman. I am a little bit insecure about it.

Giggles: Josie couldn't stop laughing as she tried to do a set of press ups with her TWO trainers

Struggling: While Josie looked as though she was struggling at points, she kept a smile on her face throughout

'I want to lose a little bit of weight - but I love a nice curry, that’s my downfall. I love Jamaican food, a nice bit of curried goat.'

However, Josie's boyfriend John James said despite her admitting one of the reasons she wants to lose weight is to please him, the Australian is adamant he loves Josie however she looks.

He said recently: 'I couldn’t care less what Josie weighs. I love her just the way she is. It’s up to her completely.'

Watch and learn: Josie looks deep in concentration as her trainers talk her through one difficult move

Careful, Josie! The Big Brother winner nearly slips as she does a pull up while holding onto a metal bar

But it's not only a punishing exercise regime Josie wants to stick to - she has also embarked on a strict diet.

Writing on her Twitter page earlier this week, Josie told fans: 'I'm on detox for 6 months', before adding: 'Just had fitness training. Hard work but loving it!!'

However, Josie is struggling somewhat with the food she is allowed to eat, tweeting: 'Mmmmmmm my fav bit of curry goat or brown stew chicken right up my street. Thai food and caribbean food is me fav mmmmm (sic).'

And stretch: Josie and her trainers relax as they cool down at the end of their vigorous workout

Balancing: Josie's trainer ensures she is completing the move properly as she stretches her hamstring

She then added: 'Is dyin for a chocolate bar but on a diet. X x x x'
And, continuing her health kick, Josie is also attempting to quit smoking, and has cut down to just one or two a day.

Meanwhile, Josie's relationship with John James is going from strength to strength.
John James admitted in OK! magazine that he is thrilled to have proved is critics wrong and is already planning how he can take their relationship to the next level.

Giggles: Josie appeared to be enjoying herself during the workout, laughing and dancing with her trainer

Bubbly: Josie won over viewers with her bubbly personality when she appeared on Big Brother

He said: 'I want to take her to Paris and get to the top of the Eiffel Tower with the whole city laid out beneath us and propose to her there. And if she says no, I can jump off the top!'

John James, is planning to move in with Josie in the near future, also said he can't believe how lucky he is to have found his soulmate in the Big Brother house.

He added: 'We think alike, me and Josie. We're the same in our different ways. We just realise it all the time, how alike we are are. Apart from the fact that I am tidy and she is messy.'

Christine Bleakley overdoes the fake tan as she reunites with Adrian Chiles ahead of TV return

Tan fan: Christine Bleakley appeared to have overdone the fake tan as she promoted her new ITV show Daybreak

With her return to TV screens looming, Christine Bleakley is obviously keen to look her best.

But as she posed for a photoshoot to promote her new show Daybreak it appeared she may have been seeking beauty advice from her fellow WAGs.

The presenter appeared to have layered on the fake tan in a typical footballer's wife style, with her skin boasting a dark glow.

It comes just a few weeks after she and boyfriend Frank Lampard were spotted enjoying a night on the town sporting matching orange glows.

But while Lampard matched his skin to Christine's, her old friend Adrian Chiles appeared to have stuck to his natural skin tone.

The pair are set to be reunited five months after they last shared the sofa for The One Show.

Reunited: Christine and Adrian Chiles are preparing to return to the sofa after five months apart

Orange? Christine on a night out with boyfriend Frank Lampard

They will return to TV as they front their new programme, which is replacing GMTV, from next Monday.

Chiles, 43, walked turned his back on the BBC in April after it emerged he was being asked to make way for Chris Evans on Friday nights.

It has since emerged that he even rejected a chat show offered by BBC bosses desperate to keep him at the station.

BBC1 controller Jay Hunt said: 'Of course Adrian was hurt. Adrian was hurt by the changes to Friday night.'

She told an audience at the Edinburgh Festival that he was offered a 'range of opportunities' including a chat show and sports shows and said it was 'the sort of offer of work that a lot of presenters would give their back teeth for'.

Christine announced she would be joining Chiles in July after she signed a £4million three-year deal with ITV after the BBC withdrew its £900,000 two-year-offer to stay at the corporation.

Their arrival has seen the departure of veteran GMTV hosts Penny Smith and Andrew Castle, while Kate Garraway has been handed the role of entertainment editor.
